Serba Dinamik eyeing more smart maintenance projects

Serba Dinamik strongly believes that the smart maintenance systems and applications that it has developed would help asset owners to improve in terms of assets and productivity.

KUALA LUMPUR: Engineering services provider Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd (Serba Dinamik) plans to aggressively look for opportunities for smart maintenance projects next year, said group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohd Karim Abdullah.

He said the group strongly believed that the smart maintenance systems and applications that it has developed would help asset owners to improve in terms of assets and productivity.

Serba Dinamik aimed to expand the services to the Middle East and Central Asia, apart from the existing projects in Malaysia and Indonesia, he said.

“We have received a purchase order from Indonesia for us to carry out the smart maintenance implementation of their assets. In Malaysia, what has been agreed is that the national oil company has allowed Serba Dinamik to use the smart maintenance systems and applications that we have developed in the contracts that we have secured with Petronas,” he told Bernama at the recent International Applied Vibration Conference (IAVIC) 2019.

Mohd Karim, who is also deputy president of the Institute of Materials, Malaysia, said Serba Dinamik was looking to expand the smart maintenance applications to sectors like power generation and facility management.

“Our smart maintenance systems and applications can also be used in buildings maintenance and other assets which is related to the building itself,” he added.

Overall, Mohd Karim said the adoption of Industry 4.0 (IR4.0) in the local oil and gas industry was low and awareness is needed to fast-track the IR4.0 adoption among these companies.

“Based on a study, they (O&G companies) are still in the Third Industrial Revolution (IR3.0). So, one of the major components in IR3.0 is digitalisation of data information and quite a number of oil and gas companies are starting or have done this digitalisation process.

“Then it goes to IR4.0 which involves data collection in digital format that can be used in data analytics and fast-track the results of data that are being collected. There are a lot of things to build up the awareness and to make it ready to be implemented in the industry,” he said.

Themed “Vibration in the Era of Industrial Revolution 4.0”, the two-day event was held on November 13 to 14, 2019.

The conference highlighted the latest standards, technology and best practices in not only solving but also managing vibration issues related to humans, processes, transportation, building, and structures, as well as machinery.

Serba Dinamik — now, a strong force globally

KUCHING: From its humble beginnings in Bintulu way back in 1993, Serba Dinamik Holdings Berhad (SDHB) has achieved many milestones and developed into a force to be reckoned with on the global platform.

In 1997, the company became a vendor for Petronas. Four years later, SDHB secured its first overseas contract — a maintenance, repair and overhaul contract signed with a liquefied natural gas plant in Qatar. In 2017, SDHB was listed on the main market of Bursa Malaysia.

Today, SDHB and its group of companies are an international energy services group that provides a range of engineering services and solutions for the oil and gas industry from operation and maintenance, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning, in addition to other supporting products and services.

SDHB founder, group managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Dr Mohd Abdul Karim Abdullah is one who helped elevate Sarawak’s oil and gas industry to greater heights; he is forward-thinking, highly ambitious, and insightful.

“Following the signing of an RM313 million contract between SDHB and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd in early March this year, Sarawak’s oil and gas industry will be welcoming new opportunities in employment and capacity-building,” he remarked.

Dr Mohd Abdul Karim elaborated that based on the contract, Petronas facilities in the state would receive maintenance, construction and modification services as provided by SDHB.

“The awarding of this contract for Miri and Bintulu facilities reflects SDHB’s good reputation for quality of work and timely delivery. At the same time, we greatly emphasise occupational safety,” he added as he expressed the company’s sincere appreciation towards Petronas’ confidence in them.

SDHB is now venturing into new markets on a global scale, including Europe, America and the Middle East.

“Malaysia is just one market SDHB is focusing on. At the same time, we have enormous operations in various locations around the world,” he said, adding that 35 per cent of SDHB’s economic contributions over the last half-decade had been sourced domestically while the rest came from international operations.

One of the company’s most recent high-profile achievements just last week was its signing of a $30 million agreement with the Islamic Development Bank (ISDB) for the “Reverse Linkage” project in ISDB member countries.

The “Reverse Linkage” project, championed by ISDB, is a technical cooperation programme which provides solutions to development challenges through triangular cooperation. ISDB matches two member counties via the “Reverse Linkage” mechanism — enabling them to exchange resources, technology, and expertise.

Dr Mohd Abdul Karim described the agreement as a win-win situation for both his firm as well as ISDB.

However, the astute managing director is not one to put all his eggs in one basket. Being aware that some markets, such as in the Middle East, come with potential geopolitical risks, SDHB is also diversifying geographically in order to lessen risks.

“We are quite aggressively pushing in Central Asia and we have embarked in Africa as well,” he disclosed. With these expansions, SDHB expects a revenue increment of 15 to 20 per cent for this financial year.

The company has indeed been recognised for its diligent efforts, having recently earned oil and gas engineering and maintenance contracts in three countries, namely Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates and Qatar all worth a combined total of USD110 million.

“In Malaysia, we have also been awarded six more oil and gas contracts,” Dr Mohd Abdul Karim disclosed.

Last year, SDHB had a combined revenue of RM3.28 billion. This year, the CEO hoped the company would be able to achieve RM4 billion in revenue.

He announced that SDHB was close to achieving this year’s order book target of RM10 billion, currently standing at RM8.3 billion.

Touching on key components of their business, Dr Mohd Abdul Karim highlighted sustainability and flexibility.

SDHB, he remarked, was always willing to re-evaluate if certain operations were hindered by external factors, instead focusing on effectively expanding their operations and earnings in other regions if necessary.

Meanwhile, SDHB’s scope is also broadening with the group aiming to be a serious contender in renewable energy, with RM700 million being allocated to several power generation projects just last August.

According to Dr Mohd Abdul Karim, SDHB is setting its sights on hydro markets such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Laos.

Thinking ahead in this modern age, SDHB is now venturing into the technological sector as well, especially with its wholly-owned subsidiary, Serba Dinamik IT Solutions Sdn Bhd.

“We believe there is potential growth for our IT (information technology) division, which is important as well since IT is a catalyst for the future’s shifting lifestyles.

Usaha sama Serba Dinamik, Startup Borneo tahun depan

KUALA LUMPUR, July 17 — Serba Dinamik Group Bhd, which provides total engineering and maintenance package solutions for industries, has developed a system which is embedded with artificial intelligence (AI) and mixed reality that could optimise plant turnarounds.

Vice president, special projects, Dr Mohamed Ackiel Mohamed said through the system called ‘Smart Maintenance Embedded With Mixed Reality’, the company could assist any industry in analysing its maintenance system through AI and to reduce unplanned maintenance.

He said the system helped to solve problems more efficiently through a 360-degree view of context-based data.

“This system comes with a very intelligent AI where that particular equipment or components would have the information of the past case studies which is related to the equipment regardless of brand or model.

He said as a result of the system, industries would be able to manage the labour involved and upskill the labour using the system.

“You (industries) are able to manage the spare parts and warehouse as well as monitor the equipment throughout the process and after,” he told Bernama on the sidelines after his presentation at the Beyond Paradigm Summit 2019 organised by Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd here today.

The company, which has international operations, provides its total engineering and maintenance package solutions services to various industries, including power, steel, oil and gas, petrochemicals and related industries.

Ackiel opined that Malaysia was still far behind in plant digitalisation and hoped Serba Dinamik would be the catalyst in that segment.

He said the system, which cost about US$3 million to US$4 million (RM12.4 million to RM16.5 million), had been developed since August last year and the system was now open for sale.

Currently, Serba Dinamik is cooperating with the Malaysia Investment Development Authority to facilitate the industry players in adopting the system for smooth operation.

“There are companies from various industries, including manufacturing, oil and gas, and transportation, which have shown their interest in applying this software. It is now available for sale to those interested,” he said.

The summit today introduced participants to the advanced technologies covering industries such as energy, healthcare, manufacturing, finance, education, telecommunications and transportation.

It showed how these technologies could drive competitiveness through value-added processes such as digitisation, advanced manufacturing and efficient resource utilisation. The two-day event, which began today, was officiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and featured the appearance of social humanoid robot, Sophia, developed by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics. — Bernama
